Columbia, S.C. (Oct. 20, 2025) — The Sam Johnson for Columbia campaign today announced the endorsement of Jaime Harrison, former Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and a lifelong South Carolinian known for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to expanding opportunity across the state and nation.
In his endorsement, Harrison praised Johnson’s record of service and his dedication to collaboration, saying:
“Sam Johnson is the kind of leader who brings people together and gets things done. He’s proven that progress comes when we listen to our neighbors, work across differences, and focus on what truly matters – building stronger communities. I’m proud to stand with Sam because I know he’ll continue to serve Columbia with integrity and compassion, and lead with vision.”
Johnson, who is running for the At-Large seat on Columbia City Council, expressed deep gratitude for Harrison’s endorsement.
“Jaime Harrison’s story, from growing up in Orangeburg to leading the Democratic Party, is one of service, perseverance, and belief in people,” said Johnson. “His leadership has inspired so many across South Carolina, including me. I’m honored to have his support as we continue building a campaign that’s about collaboration, inclusion, and community – because Columbia’s best days are ahead of us when we work together.”
A Columbia native, Sam Johnson has spent his career bringing people together to solve problems and deliver results. As the Chief of Staff to former Mayor Steve Benjamin, Johnson helped secure over $1 billion in new investment for the city, playing a key role in projects such as the BullStreet redevelopment, the Columbia SC 63 initiative, and Soda City Farmers Market.
Today, Johnson continues to serve his community through leadership roles with Harvest Hope Food Bank, Women in Leadership, Trustus Theatre, and the SC Afterschool Alliance. His campaign for City Council At-Large focuses on smart growth, affordable housing, public safety, and collaboration that delivers real results.
“This campaign has always been about people. About every family, every neighborhood, every voice in Columbia,” states Johnson. “I’m grateful for Jaime’s confidence and I am extremely proud to stand alongside leaders who believe in moving our city forward, together.”
Early voting begins today, October 20th, and runs until October 31st. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4th, 2025.
